Type Locality and Naming

Synonym: Chakrata Fm (local name spelling)
Lithology and Thickness
Siltstone. Purple, dark green, grayish green and grey greywacke and siltstone rhythmically alternating with similarly colored slates, and exhibits turbidites features; ~800m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Base of Chakarata is nowhere exposed.
Upper contact
Upper limit is variable; north of Chakarata Fm it is abruptly overlain by the Deoban Fm., with a thrust Fault. In Yamuna Valley, it is perceptibly passes into the Rautgara Fm.
Regional extent
Kumaun region.

Graded bedding, various tool-and scour-marks, flute-and load casts, indicate flysch deposits (Valdiya, 1970).
